SUMMER 2011 EVENT
July 17, 2011 3:00 pm
Caffe della Gamba Sarah Tippett and Genevieve MacKay Bass Viols
"Caffe della Gamba seeks to recapture the social spirit of the viola da gamba by presenting an intriguing programme in an intimate setting"
Music by Michael East, c.1580 - 1626 . John Coprario, c. 1570 - 1626 Marin Marais, c.1656 - 1728 . Carl Friedrich Abel, c.1723 - 1787 Sarah Tippett, viola de gamba
Sarah is an enthusiastic member of the Vancouver viol scene, frequently playing consort music for the sheer pleasure of it, rather than for any performance purpose. She is a staff member of the Viola da Gamba Society of America's annual workshop, Conclave, and a great proponent of the viola da gamba both locally and abroad. She has performed in concerts with the Vancouver Voices Choir and the Baranduin Ensemble, of which she is a founding member. Sarah is an active cello teacher, both on the North Shore and the Sunshine Coast, and she is the manager and cellist for the Grace Notes String Quartet.
Genevieve MacKay, viola da gamba
Genevieve began studying the violin at the age of four. At sixteen, she turned her attention to the viola, which she has played in a variety of local ensembles. These range from the UBC Symphony Orchestra and the Baranduin Ensemble, of which she is a founding member, to local rock band 'Andorra'. In 2006, Sarah drew Genevieve into the world of early music, which she is currently exploring on violin, viola and viola da gamba. Genevieve works as Volunteer Coordinator for Early Music Vancouver.

Musicians will introduce the music they are playing and describe their instruments. Audience members will have an opportunity to speak with the performers in the intermission and after the concert.
