How Can I Become a Volunteer

VANOC will require an estimated 25,000 volunteers to help run both the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, in dozens of functions ranging from Accreditation to Venue Operations.

  • For more information go to the 2010 Website and follow the links to Volunteering in the Participation Section.

Other local organizations are always looking for volunteers.

  • To find out more about how you can help in your area on the Sunshine Coast visit the Volunteer Canada website Your Link to Volunteering

VolWeb.ca is a web-based registration system designed to connect volunteers to event organizers across B.C. Visit http://www.volweb.ca to find out how to register.

Premier Gordon Campbell and VANOC CEO John Furlong are among many high level presenters who presented at the business opportunity summit that was held Tuesday October 12, 2004 in Sechelt.

"The Spirit of 2010 is about bringing out the best of B.C. in every community and every field of endeavour," Sunshine Coast Spirit of BC Community Chair Klaus Fuerniss said. "The Sunshine Coast Spirit of 2010 Business Opportunity Summit will highlight the opportunities offered across many levels by the 2010 Olympics."

And Fuerniss wants to ensure that everyone in his community has access to those opportunities. The Sunshine Coast Opportunity Summit, modeled after the Vancouver Business Summit that took place May 3rd, 2004, provided local residents a first hand opportunity to start their 2010 planning.

"The 2010 Games are generating enormous opportunities right here on the Sunshine Coast," said Fuerniss. "The summit brought together businesses, investors, athletes and community leaders from across the Coast to learn more about how to capitalize on those opportunities."

The provincially appointed Spirit of BC Committee organized the summit and the province participated by providing Olympic-development papers outlining tourism, procurement and investment strategies.

The Spirit of BC committee will continue working together with the community over the next 6 years to ensure the Sunshine Coast shares in the opportunities that will be created.

"We're going to continue working hard to maximize those opportunities for everyone here on the Sunshine Coast."
