If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, you have come to the right place. Our members are looking for volunteers. Read through the list below to see if there is something that appeals to you. If you can help with the Art Crawl for a two hour shift, let us know. October 20-22, Roberts Creek Library greeting station. Chance to meet the community!
Provide support for stroke survivors by becoming a valued volunteer assistant in a stroke recovery program. They also need new board members.
Help represent the Canadian Cancer Society on the Sunshine Coast by assisting with cancer prevention events and presentations.
The Community Justice Program of the Sunshine Coast is looking for facilitators in its Restorative Justice Program. Engage in this rapidly expanding social movement by working with restorative practices.
Interested in first aid? Volunteer as a classroom and equipment helper during first aid courses in Sechelt.
Have or want experience cooking and serving? Help out at a lunch program in Gibsons and meet lots of new people.
If you like working outdoors, consider helping with yard work at the Salmon Hatchery. They also need people for the next three weeks to help with fin clipping. Lunch is included with your volunteer time!
Help provide governance to a local community resource society by becoming a board member.
Do you like taking notes? There are organizations on the coast who could use your expertise as a secretary of their organizations - try the SC Skating Club.
A group of visually impaired people meeting once a month on Wednesdays in Davis Bay need help with setting up the venue and taking notes.
If you have a half hour to give on a fairly regular basis, we are looking to develop a Volunteer Driving program which would help clients who are no longer able to drive or those without vehicles. (This program would be for people with mobility issues or caregivers who need a quick ride to the food bank to pick up groceries, or require a trip to the drugstore or recreation centre for a therapeutic class.)
Volunteer Drivers would have a pickup/drop off once or twice a month in their catchment area. There is flexibility to suit the drivers time frame.
We are looking to develop a roster of potential drivers before we can start the program. Let us know if you are interested.
The following opportunites are available in seniors home care services:
- Telephone Tree Program: Make courtesy calls to clients who live alone. One day a week , 8 to 9 am.
- Gibsons Shopping Program: Take down phoned-in grocery lists, and then shop for home-bound individuals. The store delivers the orders.
- Friendly Visitor Program: meet with a housebound senior in your area once a week to play cards, read aloud, go for walks.
Contribute to road safety in our community by providing a safe ride home for individuals that have participated in an alcohol-related event.
Are you good at handiwork? Community Services agency is looking for facilities maintenance people to perform general repairs and maintenance.
Assistant
needed to help pick up and sort items donated to a local community service in Sechelt.
If you are good at facilitating meetings, a peer support group for survivors of acquired brain injuries would benefit.
If you know the area and would like to meet people, consider working at the Gibsons Visitor Centre. Friday and Saturday positions open - 10-1 or 1-4... Training provided.
Also Sechelt Visitor Centre is looking for lunch relief volunteer for weekdays/Saturday 1-2 hours per week.
Habitat for Humanity needs your help in building affordable housing for families on the coast. There are many ways for you to volunteer:
- Recycling team - Help sort refundables to raise money for Habitat projects. Drop-in or regular commitment on Tuesday & Friday mornings. Sechelt 8:30 am, Gibsons 10:00 am.
- Be a driver for the recycling team. Drive the cube van between Wilson Creek and Extra Foods Tuesday and/or Friday morning.
- Swamper - assist the truck driver with pick ups and deliveries
- ReStore retailer - get experience in a retail hardware environment
- Cleaner - to sort and clean donated and stocked items in the ReStore
- Stocker - stock and reorganize items for sale ni the ReStore
- Help on construction, landscaping, etc.
- Facilitate a home ownership mentoring group.
- Help a committee - coordinating events and volunteers, fundraising, etc.

Wildlife care centre in Gibsons urgently needs people to help prepare food for the birds and animals as well as clean dishes, cages and pens. Choose which job you would like.
Would you like to be part of the effort to restock salmon in local rivers and raise trout? Or help educate the public about this group's actions? Become a volunteer.
Brownie Leader assistant needed in Pender Harbour area.
Translators wanted for helping non English speaking people in an unusual, medical or emergency situation. Please let us know if you can speak any other language so we can build our database. You would only be called upon when needed. Sign up on an annual basis.
A local dance society would love help planning and executing multi-faceted artistic dance events along the Sunshince Coast.
The local RCMP detachments are looking for volunteers to help with programs in the community.
Speed Watch - operate a radar and speed display sign in school zones and other areas
Citizens on Patrol - patrol at night looking for suspicious activity, crimes in one of three areas - Gibsons, Sechelt or Halfmoon Bay
Crimestoppers - member of the board including awareness and fundraising
Auxiliary Police Officers - accompany regular members on patrol and perform police functions under supervision
Driver with truck required to help with occasional local moves for Community Services. Possibly three or four times a month.
Help Sunshine Coast Community Services raise money to enhance its programs! Volunteer at the Gibsons Thrift Shop as a Thrift Shop Associate.
Capilano University is looking for tutors to help with improving the literacy and numeracy skills of adults or helping with "English as a Second Language" students.
