5 Year Plan Draft

Mercy and Caring Home  in Kitale, Kenya, East Africa

In 2006- ten acres of farmland was purchased a 20 min. drive from Kitale, Kenya

In 2007- The following was completed:

A. Purchase of a pickup truck with passenger box

B. Construction of:

1) ten classrooms

2) 2 dorm buildings (30’ X 83’) each with dining room and houseparent accommodation housing a total of 80 children

3) main kitchen and bulk-food storage

4) bathing rooms and toilet block

5) power house with 5.5 kva generator

6) football, netball and volleyball playing fields established

7) dug well and 2-5000 liter storage tanks on a water tower

8) wiring for electricity

9) plumbing & septic system

10)improved mud row-housing room for chaplain’s office

C. Moved the children from rented facility to their new home (Dec.07)

In 2008: Added to present staff for a total of 27

In Jan. 08 opened Primary school, Mercy and Caring Academy, adding 101 new day scholars, (baby class to Gr.6)

5 YEAR PLAN

A. Present facility (Baraton Farm) Physical development

1)Construct 2 more dormitories that would house 40 children each for a total capacity of 160 children

2)Construct a chapel

3)Construct a medical clinic

4)Construct a vocational school

5)Construct office block to free up two classrooms

6)Construct some staff housing

7)Complete construction of the guesthouse

8)Construct a secondary school

9) Hook up to the electrical power grid when it becomes available

B. Education

1)Extend the school grades from Standard 6 to Standard 8

2)Establish a secondary school

3)Establish basic vocational training for all students

4)Establish a computer school

5)Establish a library

6)Establish career counseling for all students (including the day scholars)

C. Ministry

1)Establish an Intern program for trainees from the West.

2)Expand the “home-based” program

3)Start making plans for a second major project either in the Kitale area or elsewhere.

D. Business (to reduce operating cost)

1)Construct and operate a greenhouse

2)Raise chickens, broilers and layers

3)Purchase a brick-making machine for the projects use. Make and sell bricks or rent out the machine.

E Management

a.)Reliable Kenyan staff in communication by email to Canadian board.

b.)Schedule board members from Canada and/or authorized team members to make yearly visits of 3 months up to to two years in Kenya.

TIME LINE

2008

1)Get the existing facility completed and operating properly

-install glass in windows in classrooms

-drawers in dining rooms

-cubbies in dorms

-dorms painted

-sewage disposal system improved

-entrance gate completed

-signpost completed and erected

2)Establish funding for the future projects

3)Establish the management of the projects

4)Finish construction of the guest house

2009

1)Purchase brick machine and start stock-piling bricks

2)Construct 2 dormitories

3)Construct the chapel

4)Construct and operate the greenhouse

5)Start the chicken business

6)Start “career counseling”

7)Establish the Intern program

8)Expand the “home based” ministry

2010

1) Construct the medical clinic

2) Construct the vocational/trades school

3) Construct some staff housing

2011

1)Begin construction of the secondary school

2)Start making plans for building another major project

3) Purchase land for a second major project

1)Begin operation of the secondary school

2) Start construction of another project at another location
