Sept 30 - Oct 2. Come explore the ever expanding vocabulary of the mixed media woven vessel while combining sculptural concepts of layering, with encaustic medium applied to fiber. This highly focused, process driven workshop will begin with weaving a simple boat form, layering with paper or fabric, then infusing those fibers with coats of encaustic medium. This gives a warm luminance effect to your vessel and allows marking, exploring oil stick inlay, and embedding surface materials such as found objects, beads, and items collected in nature.

An interactive workshop, you will gain knowledge and process of textile dyeing with natural materials, learn the difference between “cellulose” and “protein” fibres, and how they take on the dyes. Daphne will also introduce the art of Shibori, the Japanese art of manipulating fabric to create patterns through the dye process and guided to dye a scarf using shibori to take home with you.

Oct 23-26. Welcome to my Fall workshop. I’ll be instructing this class in acrylic texturing and glazing techniques using a forest theme. This 4-day workshop is packed with tips and info to carry you through the winter of painting! Learn to glaze colours and use pigment in subtle ways. I teach by demo, I’ll work on each step then assist you on yours. Together we’ll build towards a finished painting of your own. Limited class size, lots of individual help. This medium is so satisfying due to the immediacy of its nature. Materials included for the course.
