Set in the sun-dappled Italian countryside in the mid-eighties, this much-awarded portrait of a brief romance between a young man and the graduate student who visits with his family for the summer holiday is a stirring depiction of self-discovery and love’s ability to shake the foundations of our lives. Stripped of the baggage that so often complicates and corrupts gay romance, the story is allowed to flourish as an unfiltered evocation of the agony and ecstasy of first love.
