Based on actual events, this harrowing film takes place in Denmark at the end of WWII when young German POWs, mostly teens with almost no training, are forced to clear the beaches of over one million hidden land mines. Although the consequences are horrific, the Danes have little sympathy for their former occupiers. The film serves as a poignant reminder that revenge destroys more than it satisfies and compassion can help the healing process.

During Britain’s darkest hour in the midst of the Blitz, the government sets out to produce a propaganda film to lift the nation’s spirits and entice America to its aid. A secretary, Catrin, is recruited as a scriptwriter in order to provide a woman’s perspective. She, along with her witty counterpart, Buckley, set out to make an epic portrayal of the Dunkirk rescue, starring a vain matinee idol (played to perfection by Bill Nighy). Their Finest is a wonderfully acted work of warmth, grace, and surprising humour.
