Directed by Helena Norberg-Hodge, Steven Gorelick & John Page A revealing look at a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, an unholy alliance of governments and big business continues to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time people all over the world are resisting those policies through the localization movement. In this film, we hear from a chorus of voices from six continents telling us that climate change and peak oil give us little choice -- we need to localize, to bring the economy home.

The current focus of the project is on mapping, testing, and dating a number of settlements in Tla’amin territory. We are beginning to understand the region’s diverse archaeological record and some of the many ways the ancestral Tla’amin lived. Nyra Chalmer is a Master of Arts candidate at Simon Fraser University (SFU). Her graduate research is nested within the SFU-Tla’amin Archaeology Project and investigates changing landscape use at a village site in Tla’amin traditional territory from 4000 BP until contact. Chris Springer is a Ph.D. student in the Archaeology Department at Simon Fraser University. The broad goal of his proposed research is to examine the relationship between social structure and built environments of past coastal and riverine based, complex hunter-fisher-gatherers. His research is undertaken as part of the Tla’amin-SFU Heritage and Archaeology Program, a long term, multidisciplinary project co-directed by Drs. Dana Lepofsky and John Welch of SFU and Michelle Washington of the Tla’amin First Nation. Email: liz.webster@viu.ca

The mystical story of the Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia. It is a wonderful tale of tragic life, ripped from history. The mystery of the 17 year old Grand Duchess has fascinated people for 90 years, spanning books, movies, and musicals. Anastasia is the story of an innocent girl, a modern myth, and its mysterious surroundings inspire great speculation about the summer of 1918.

USA 2011, 83 minutes, documentary Director: Jeff Malmberg Annual General Meeting after film. In 2000, Mark Hogancamp was brutally attacked by five men in his hometown of Kingston, New York. Emerging from a nine-day coma with brain damage, physical and occupational therapies helped him regain basic motor skills. After a year his insurance ran out and, determined to defy his attackers, Hogancamp turned to art as a therapeutic tool. What this ex-navyman, carpenter, and showroom designer accomplished was astonishing. He imagined and built in his backyard a fictional Belgian town he named “Marwencol.” This film is a quirky testament to the human spirit.
