Responsibilities and Volunteer Positions

Board Members

EXECUTIVES: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar 

DIRECTORS:
  • Assistants to Executives with a vote on motions for or against changes in running league.
PAST PRESIDENT
  • Available to assist in a smooth transition to the new executive.  Still retains a directors voting status.

Non Board Member Positions

DIVISION Coordinator: - voluntary/self nominated/by executive appointment
  • Can be a shared position. Recommend there is a good knowledge of coaches, players, and parents in their area. Liaison between coaches, managers and executive committee. WORKS WITH executive to organize their divisions. Assigns volunteers to selected tasks, i.e. coaches, assistants, managers, etc. WORKS WITH coaches to organize teams. Places late registrants on teams, if room is available. Communicates information between executive and coaches. Helps organize dispensing and managing of league equipment between teams and equipment manager. will establish front line communication if problems arise.
THE COACH: - voluntary position

  • Coaches a team
  • Has or is available to attain coaching certification 
  • Arranges practice location and time in conjunction with the division coordinator.
  • Promotes fair play
  • Ensures that the team has warm-up/warm-down exercises.  
  • Works closely with the Assistant Coach, Team Manager and Parents.
  • Phones in game scores to league.
  • Gives players equal opportunities and equal time in games and practices.
  • Is encouraging, enthusiastic and positive.
  • Listen to the players and shows respect to their needs.
  • Is supportive and courteous to umpires.
  • Is prepared tocommunicate etiquette to over-enthusiastic parents.
  • Knows the rules of the game and passes that knowledge on to the players.
  • Plans practice sessions and prepares a game plan.
  • Is on time for practices and games.
  • Ensures team keeps an adequate supply of balls and equipment.
  • Maintains communications with the coordinator.
  • Can act responsibly in an emergency
  • Can be a shared position
  • Requires a criminal records check prior to season start
ASSISTANT COACH: - voluntary position 
  • Works with the Coach to support with the coaches duties, and development of the players in cooperation with the Coach
  • Available for team practices and games
  • Available to take on the team when the coach cannot make a game or practice
  • Requires a criminal record check prior to season start.

NOTE:

Coaches are probably the most important part of a child's experience in baseball. Their primary responsibility is to establish a healthy, positive team environment.  When players are being challenged in a positive and constructive way, they have fun. When players enjoy themselves, they are more receptive to learning. Coaches are extremely important people in the baseball community and, in exchange for striving to meet a high standard of performance, they deserve our ongoing thanks, support and respect. Most are grateful for parent participation, so all parents should find out how they can help with the team duties.

TEAM MANAGER: - voluntary position 

  • Coordinate uniforms (ie. Hand out uniforms to coaches for players)
  • Provide updated team rosters and schedules to players.
  • Liaison between Coach and Player.
  • Understanding of Problem Solving Procedure and implementation.
  • Retains or is scorekeeper for the team.
  • To establish an emergency procedure in case of serious injury.
  • To support the coach.
EQUIPMENT MANAGER: voluntary position
  • Works with executive in all aspects of league equipment
  • Maintains all aspects of inventory control under CBL supply.
  • Distributes inventory to division representatives and/or coaches
  • Assesses need of new equipment and relays it to the Equipment Purchaser
Equipment: The Association supplies each team with practice and game balls, bases, bats, safety equipment, and uniforms. Return any equipment you have that is no longer required. All equipment will be returned after the final tournament or AGM meeting. As of 2006 the new helment policy is in effect. Players are responsible for their own helmet.

EQUIPMENT PURCHASER: Voluntary position
  • is buyer for league equipment and uniforms

SCOREKEEPER: voluntary position

  • Responsible for keeping the score for the team
  • Relay final scores to the coaches for submission to the league

Available before games starts to ensure line-up and scorebook is prepared prior to "play ball" 

ADVERTISING COORDINATOR: voluntary position

  • Advertises for the AGM
  • Advertises to inform public of registration start
  • Acts as liaison between the league and media
  • Informs media groups of special events and media opportunities
  • Keeps media informed with up to date information on scores, schedule changes etc.
  • Works with or as Website contributor

Prepares for concession stand at season end tournament



UMPIRE-IN-CHIEF: - volunteer/ by executive appointment 

  • Works with executive to train and organize umpires.
  • Prepares weekly umpire schedule.
  • Maintains data for umpire' compensation and submit invoices accordingly.
  • Contacts and maintains disciplinary records on player offences.
  • Coordinate with league volunteers' mediation with abusive coaches and or players.
  • Maintain an umpire-meeting schedule for updates on BCMBA rules and policies.
THE UMPIRE: (paid position) 

  • Is in charge of the game.
  • Ensures the game is played fairly and safely.
  • Is there to enforce the rules.
  • His/her decisions, whether correct or not, are to be respected and, according to BCMBA regulations.
  • Has umpire certification
Umpires who wish to be on the list of available umpires for the season should call the Umpire-in-chief.

Respecting the Umpire - Game officials are necessary and important for all hardball games. It is imperative that the coaches, players and parents show the utmost respect for all game officials at all times. Any physical or verbal abuse will not be tolerated. Coaches should be aware that it is their responsibility to control their players and supporters (i.e. parents). Failure to do so can, and does, result in discipline.

Criminal Records Check Form 

If you wish to volunteer -  Adults working with youth will need to undergo a Criminal Records Check. To do this, visit your local R.C.M.P office and request a Criminal Records Check Form. Please submit this form in person to the RCMP and present the requisite identification at that time. You must authorize the RCMP to release your check to the Central Hardball League and have a copy mailed to: CENTRAL HARDBALL LEAGUE - PO BOX 1951 SECHELT BC V0N 3A0.
